Uddershock – Rival to Tankcow?

James Reynolds | July 1, 2008

Fear not worthy internet space I speak to as if it were a person for I have not left you yet! It is true that I have slacked a bit here and that’s mostly Leslie’s fault since she moved today and is now officially residing in Scumhampton! I shall be going there tomorrow (wireless ADSL router in hand) to see her. I actually gave her my old Tigermax Compy so hopefully if all goes well she’ll be online and pestering us some time soon! :)

I’ll get the WoW stuff out of the way since there isn’t much of it. As you may know it’s the Midsummer Fire Festival at the moment, what you may not know is that simply putting out the bonfires (i’ve done ALL the Oldworld ones) you can earn yourself a pretty penny and some sick experience. I decided, as an experiment, to see how much experience I could get for my Rogue Dreadmoore currently at level 68. I earned 547,000 Experience for doing nothing but walk around and talk to NPCs/Fires. I won’t lie though, it took me quite some time – but I did ding in the process, get all 4 capital flames and that nifty flaming brazier thing.

  • Check out the Photobucket Gallery Dreadmoore’s Fire Festival Adventure!

I have also decided I am going to try my hand at leveling an elemental shaman – He’s only level 7 at the moment (Mulgore is SUCH a bastard to level through) – but hopefully the end of this week will see him reaching a level from which I can start getting Mark to repay me all these runs I do for him and pimp him out in the Fang set.

Be sure to chuckle at these Costume shots from the WWI:

  • Man Shames self.
  • There’s always one.
  • There are none on the Internet.
  • Probably best i’ve seen.

Last WoW thing is that if you’re a Fan of Oxhorn Brand Movies like me and were curious as to exactly what he looks like … Then his latest videos feature actually footage of him. Hat, Suspenders and all.

  • Check Out Oxhorn’s Wegame Page.

On non-WoW related news my next Review game will be Battlefield: Bad Company, a game which has somewhat caught me off guard with it’s surprisingly fun gameplay style. It plays like a traditional Battlefield game … With destructible buildings in a Modern war environment. I certainly look forward to giving it a shot. I’m not sure if I linked it last time but my review of Aces of the Galaxy is up.

  • Fancy winning some games? There are competitions running on XE all the time!

So Me and Mark were playing some Red Alert 2 recently (no YR) and we decided to do the medium Ally co-op campaign on the internets where you play as the Koreans. It usually proves to be a case of “How Quickly can we lock the map down?”. One level the island literally only joined for about 6 squares in the middle … So at the beginning of the game I rushed my MCV up there and started building a wall. A wall of death some might say. From then on the AI was just easy pickings as we strategy bombed them into the stone-age.

  • Wall O’ Death.

One last thing I want to talk about before I leave you with a few video links is a series they run on The Escapist called Unforgotten Realms. I don’t really know what to tell you besides you should definitely watch it … It’s about two guys one of whom is obviously a nerd and they do some D&D. The other guy totally takes the piss and much hilarity ensues.

  • So check it out!

Peace,
JamesR.

It just occurred to me that I absolutely MUST make Sporelings in Spore.

Please note that the Featured Videos will be linked from now on AFTER the break.

Then I Was Struck by Lightning

James Reynolds | June 23, 2008

Well I had some extremely good fortune today! I was going about my business on the Elemental Plateau grinding my days worth of Primals for my Might Transmute, it something I try to do at least once every other day to make up for not doing my dailies as much as I should.

I did my Air first, the most difficult because the drop rate is so poor. Followed by Fire then over to water where I got 5 just from fishing the pools and the last five from kills. I had an Earth in my bag from Dreadmoore so I figured “Fuckit” and just picked up a Primal Mana for 20g. That still leaves a nice tidy 130g profit.

I grabbed it out of the Mailbox and switched to Ghost wolf (good luck rituals and all that) when all of a sudden GOD revealed himself to me and gave me not one, not two … but Five Primal Mights.

The total amount of money put on to the AH was 750g (top of post) … Not bad for about 30 minutes work. The AH will take a nasty cut though.

Be sure to watch these videos.

And if you have an hour and 15 to listen to an inspirational man who is actually dying then:

Regards,
JamesR.

Seriously though, how unlikely is that?!

Midsummer Festival of Pain

James Reynolds | June 22, 2008

Firstly, enjoy this nice slab of Irony.

So I just spent the last 30 minutes attempting the do the “More” juggling quest in WoW for some great little gimmick items and I came to the conclusion that whoever designed it is a fucking retard.

Literally, you throw the torch up the air and it’ll go about 15 feet up allowing you to maneuver into position and it has to land within a few inches of you to count … Then, your character will throw it back up, in a random direction and you have to sucessfuly catch it another 9 times.

The problem is, when your screen is ridiculously busy with all the idiots on their fucking Kodos griefing you and the torch is so unpredictable it is nearly impossible to navigate your character underneath it. The easiest thing to do in my opinion is go to first person view, but then when the torch comes through your camera … It still freaking counts as a miss. It’s obscene.

So here is a video I think fans of Garry’s Mod and those who aren’t will enjoy alike.

Regards,
JamesR.

At what point does “Garry’s Mod” stop being Garry’s Mod.

And keep the music lists coming.

Back to Kara

James Reynolds | June 20, 2008

The posts on NRT seem to be getting further apart but longer perhaps as karmic payback for them getting smaller and more regular over on Mark’s Impotence blog – So I apologize if this sometimes degrades into nothing but a wall of Zzzz worthy text.

Last night I ventured back into Karazhan for the first time in a fair few months – First time since before Christmas at least since thats when NI moved their raid schedule to days I couldn’t do and forced me to raid Mags and Gruuls instead – and I’m glad to report it went really very well. We followed a somewhat less than typical path of [Attum -> Moroes -> Maiden -> Opera (Oz) -> Nightbane -> Curator] before calling it a night.

Oh yes, I said Nightbane! The whole experience was much smoother than I was expecting with no wipes and most people well within the gear margins for such a run. Kudos have to go to our two tanks who – even though the Paladin was somewhat under-geared Spell Damage wise – did a top notch job of keeping me alive. That is not to say I didn’t nearly die once or twice, with no-one HoT’ing me for Maiden until about 50% and me tanking the Shadow Priest and then the Ret Paladin on Moroes it could have gone far worse.

My only two rewards for the night were my T4 gloves (that now makes 3/5 needing the head and Shoulders so I’m going to both Gruuls and Kara again soon as much as my current helm is actually better) and a fist full of badges which I turned in for an Epic relic which I felt was probably the best upgrade for me since there is only one other relic in the game worth considering but impossible to get. Although bizarrely my new Relic is proc based granting 100~ Attack Power on chance of casting a shock (Approximately 30-50%) … But the proc animation is the Blessing of Wisdom.

On other news I just finished watching a fascinating lecture approximately an hour and a half long on YouTube that I recommend checking out, you can find the first episode here (or watch below) and you’ll have to get the rest for yourself! It’s an interesting discussion about how the Bible as the inspired word of God has been altered many thousands of times, a quote from the videos approximates to: “There are more inconsistencies in the New Testament translations, than there are words.” Of course Theists are quick to say that he’s wrong and everything he says is either misleading or irrelevant, in fact I watched a Theist response to his book that in the course of a few minutes both said the book intentionally misleaded people and stated that it was O.k. for the church to make additions to the Bible.

It’s not misleading to CHANGE THE WORD OF GOD, but it is to talk about how scribes make mistakes and intentional changes over the course of thousands of years?

Sheer brilliance.

I have also spent some time on the Official Wrath forums in a few threads which illustrate perfectly how they don’t understand the implications of the changes they suggest. One of the things I truly despise is the idea that the Bard would be a viable new class. Yes, it would and could work but these people are ignoring the big picture! As soon as you put in a class who’s primary role is buffing (and they have described buffs for everything from Haste to Regen) Blizzard will then start making instances more difficult to scale with these buffs and ultimately all you end up with is a Raid that effectively requires a Bard and possibly several.

How is this a Good thing? There is no space in WoW for a pure buffing class … When told that he says that they will also have some DPS so the statement is effectively changed to There is no room in WoW for a required Buffing class let alone another DPS-Buff Hybrid.

Just to illustrate to you the general intelligence level of a WoW Forum poster there is also a thread asking if we will finally discover “Quel’thalas” in Wrath of the Lich King.

I have also recently watched two new movies, Planet Terror and The Happening. Planet Terror is a great Grindhouse flick which may not appeal to everyone but is still pretty funny. The key is to not take it seriously and you probably shouldn’t eat meat whilst watching ;)

The Happening is shit. Do not watch it. I’ll give you five reasons:

  1. Mark Wahlberg is one of the worst actors in the world
  2. Zooey Deschanel (you might remember her as that annoying bitch who couldn’t act in Frasier) is absolutely terrible.
  3. This movie might actually have the worst script ever made.
  4. It’s not scary. It’s not even remotely entertaining.
  5. It was the trees that dunnit.

I will sum up the movie with my favourite sequence:

————–
Women on Phone: Honey, are you near the Window with the tree? What can you see?

Wahlberg has shocked expression

Wahlberg: Tell her to get away from the window with the tree!
Women on Phone: Honey, get away from the Window with the tree!

Women puts Girl on Speaker phone

Girl is speaking jibberish

Women on Phone: Are you ok? What’s the matter?

Sound of Girl smashing through window
Women previously on phone hands Wahlberg the phone and runs away crying

Wahlberg puts the phone his ear
Wahlberg: Don’t go outside
————–

Don’t … Go outside? You have to see his face and the whole scene to really feel how stupid that is but my God people laughed at parts of that movie they shouldn’t have. Two people left at about the hour mark.

That is about all I can be bothered to write, nobody has submitted their 5 Tracks for my last post challenge so I will give you another chance.

Regards,
JamesR.

The Happening annoys me, because it’s a perfectly solid premise that M. Night managed to completely ruin.
