Halo Prelim

28 09 2007

Well, I’ve got two copies, completed the campaign on normal and co-op’d some harder difficulties, played about 20 online matches, forged with some friends and customised my spartan.

My first impressions are very very good.

I personally would rate this as better than the Original, sure there are some weak points and the original was pretty flawless, but this was a more satisfying product and has better staying power than the original.

There was something about the Multiplayer in two that was just entirely unsatisfying, bu in 3 … I love it.

Anyway, Regards,
James.

A Humanitarian Idea

25 09 2007

That’s right, stand back mere Mortals! I have the solution to World Hunger and the desperate state of Africa!

Proposal: We institute a series of laws allowing people from Africa (or other desperately poor places) to Voluntarily sign themselves up to long-term (20+ Years) worker contracts. Instead of being paid cash monehs, they are provided with food and shelter. They amass a Retirement Fund which will increase by a fair amount for every year they work successfully up until the end of the contract (Whence they can continue to work if they are fit) or take their monehs back to their homelands. They can opt to send this money home by default, instead of getting a retirement fund.

Of course if they breach the contract then they forfeit all benefits, including any money they may have saved in their retirement fund. (To encourage worker reliability). There would be a Watchdog Scheme to make sure companies who employed workers using this programme treated them fairly. No shifts longer than 12 Hours, reasonable working/living conditions and decent meals would be expected as standard. We must remember though, for the programme to be popular and successful, the costs of keeping these workers would have to be low. This might result in a Shanty-Town or mass-living block status.

A promotion-out system would also work, where-by people who are exceptionally skilled might earn themselves an early contract release, and be offered a more prosperous full-rights contract similar to that of a typical worker. Again to encourage worker loyalty/reliability most of all. People who know they could go places … tend to work harder than those in dead-end jobs.

It could be possible to run a similar employment scheme in manual labour (until recently I had considered this ideal only for factory work) or even in home services. Although the latter of the two would be much harder to watch dog.

Constraints: Those pesky civil rights activists would call this “Slavery”. In reality this is Long-Term Committal Contracting. Laws at the moment would stop people from using such long contract lengths with opt-out clauses which are necessary to make the most out of any worker you would bring and train.

Its also difficult, legally, to pay someone with food and shelter, as opposed to money. And the rates we would be looking at would almost certainly be below minimum wage, significantly if possible.

Benefits: Cheaper labour means cheaper products. More importantly, these people would have an oppurtunity to work themselves out of poverty. Graduates of the programme could take their hard earned thousands of £’s back to their country, and put it to better use there or alternatively; They could just send the cash home to start with, so they can feed their families rather than us doing it for them.

So, what do you think? You can not deny that almost every great Nation on earth employed Indentured Servants. Whilst I would not ever support Slavery (all born equal etc), I would suggest that there are people on this Earth that deserve an oppurtunity to fix their own country. We either spend £billion’s doing it for them, or they could help us - to help them.

Regards,
James.

Phew

24 09 2007

Coming down from a massive Lego Star Wars binge, only about 300 or so Gamer score done … But i’m up to 75% Completion. One more sitting (total of 3) and i’ll have it up to 100%. All but 11 Yellow blocks and Shop items left.

In a single sitting of crackdown I did the first two islands … One left + Collectibles.

I just ordered myself Condemned to, i’d say as a Personal treat … but I am already expecting Halo 3 >_>

Meh, knackered.

Sleep time.

James.

Apparently Somebody reads this?

22 09 2007

Look at the lovely comment that was left for me: ^_^

petty hate? petty…. hate? It’s much more than petty hate. It’s a full-blown rage against you.

And do you know who started it? You! Wow, imagine that!
You come into ET, and then proceed to bring your friends. That’s fine. Lots of people do that.

And then, and THEN! And then you all act like you’re bringing man fire for the first time, you act like you’re teaching some poor, degenerated little species how to talk and act, you act like you are the most clever person on the face of the planet, and you act like you’re the long-suffering teacher, the one to be looked up to, worshipped, and thanked for all your hard-earned effort?

Poor, suffering little martyr.

Poor little teacher, devoid of any thanks for his tireless and unending job. Sure, you like ET. You say you do. But at the same time, you talk of all your ‘other’ forums you go to! Do you act the same way there? Do they accept you? Do they take your kind gifts of bitter insults and snide comments, cleverly tucked away in your posts, little treasures that you wish, oh, you just WISH somebody would find?

How long do you think about those?

How many times do you look at your avatar, your signature, your post # 1800, and think, “I’m going to push this little insult into my post, and then people WILL NOTICE IT! And then they’ll be crushed by my logic and reasoning and bitter sense of humor an caustic personality!”

And you wonder why Zip is filled with ‘petty hate?’

You come into his forums with your little posse and they all do what you do, and they all back you up on everything you do, Because you are the most clever person on the face of the planet, of course, and they all copy cute little dictionary entries into their signatures, just because they think you’re hot stuff! I commend you! One of your posse is more blunt than you are. He commands far less guile and intruige. His posts tend to be ignored, because yours are there, in the forefront. He wouldn’t post without you there.

The other showcases all of the traits that you insult in other ET-goers! Bad grammar, horrific spelling, bad capitalization! You blindly ignore the arguments of people persecuting you, and instead choose to insult their choice of spelling, of typing, of word choice! Don’t worry: It’s natural. There’s nothing left to fall back onto in the face of such arguments. They’re right.

You try to beat your ideology into all of the harmless little ET-goers, you insult them on their ideas and viewpoints on all sorts of things! You come into the Love topic and insult them! You admonish and scold them for just thinking out loud, like they’re some kind of child for YOU to control! How do they feel?

A member, well-meaning, posts, making fun of the previous poster, doubting how well a ‘ long-distance relationship ‘ would work. That’s fine also. It happens, ET moves on.

But THEN, here’s the kicker. YOU come into the topic, and then proceed to insult and scold the member! YOU do the EXACT SAME THING he does, but then you justify it, because you’re better than he is! Right? Look at those 1800 posts! Hasn’t every single one been a beacon of truth and light in the darkness and ignorance of ET? But here’s the thing: you’re not better. You’re just another member, just like he is. You insult him, you don’t even use his gender, or anything.

 ”Honey, don’t talk to it.”

And you wonder why Zip is filled with ‘petty hate?’

You have the audacity, the blind urge, to bravely stand up to the ‘evil, evil administrators’ You insult them. You do it blatantly, not even in PMs. You post it out in the open, right where everyone can see. Brave, you think? No. No. Not brave. You think by posting it out in the open, where everyone can see, is better. After all, post counts means power, right? Wrong.

Your heartfelt ‘apology’ thread was astonishing. I foolishly thought that things were changing. And then, you bitterly complain that no one, not a single person, has apologized to YOU! Oh, the stupidity of it all. Not even your quick little ninja-edit could hide it. A flash of anger and bitterness shines through your cool, sarcastic facade. That’s fine. No amount of arguing, no amount of PMs dissecting each and every post you make to show all the contradictions will change anything. You’ll still be the same. Still the same person, desperately returning to ET again and again. You love it, you NEED it despite all of your other forums, games, and books you’re currently reading / playing. ET. Oh, yes.

But yes, it is petty hate. It’s more than petty hate, for all the reasons listed above. No doubt there will be a cunning and scathingly intellectual insult to reply to this. That’s fine. I can’t change you.

But look on the bright side: You got a comment on your blog that you advertise!

Thank you for the Comment Makkar! Can’t you just taste the juicy bitterness?

Regards,
James.

Ps. So you don’t miss it: MAKKAR ROCKS YOU LIKE A HURRICANE. - Kudos go to Mark.
